The Sound of Silenceの楽曲情報
The Sound of Silence（サウンド・オブ・サイレンス）は、1964年10月19日に発売されたデビュー・アルバム「Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.」及び1966年1月17日に発売された2ndアルバム「Sounds of Silence」に収録されているシングル。
ポール・サイモンがデビュー前に書いた曲のうちのひとつで、「Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.」に収録されましたが商業的に失敗。サイモンはイギリスに戻り、アート・ガーファンクルはコロンビア大学で勉強しました。
1965年に、この曲はボストンとフロリダ中のラジオ局でエアプレイを引き付け始めました。成長するエアプレイにより、曲のプロデューサーであるTom Wilson（トム・ウィルソン）がリミックスし直し、1965年9月にシングルとしてリリースされます。
1966年にビルボードホット100で初の1位を獲得しますが、デュオは再リリースされたことを知らされていなかったため急遽合流し、2枚目のアルバム制作に着手しました。
オーストラリア、オーストリア、西ドイツ、日本、オランダなど、世界中の複数の国でトップ10入りを果たし、2012年に「文化的、歴史的、または美的に重要」であるとして米国議会図書館の国立録音登録簿に追加されました。
